About Us
REFORMA is committed to improving the full spectrum of library and information services for Latinos and the Spanish-speaking in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Established in 1971, REFORMA has actively sought to promote the development of library collections and promotion of library professionals that work with the Spanish speaking communities at the local, regional, and national levels.
Nationally there are 24 active REFORMA chapters. These function autonomously, working through their local library systems and state library associations to achieve local objectives.
The association awards a number of scholarships to library school students who express interest in working with Hispanics. It also honors Latino writers and illustrators whose works best exemplify authentic cultural experiences in children’s work of literature by awarding the Pura Belpré Award.
REFORMA is a non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia and is classified as a 501 (c) (3) organization of the Internal Revenue Code.
